Lahoud's opponents assess his position as threatened
Lebanon, Politics, 9/3/2005
A Lebanese parliamentarian, opposing the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud, considered that the position of the latter has become disappointing, after accusations were officially addressed to four senior officers close to him of being involved in planning for the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri.
The parliamentarian, leader of the democratic leftist movement, Elias Ata, said one day after accusing four senior security officers by the UN investigation committee of planning for the crime that "if procedural formalities were ruled out, Lahoud has become in a desperate position."
He added in statements on Friday that no Lebanese side will be brave to defend Lahoud or support him, even those who were his former allies. The suspects were all under his command."
