Three Americans killed in Iraq, attack on Mosques

The US army announced on Friday that three of its soldiers were killed in two separate attacks launched by gunmen in the center and south of Baghdad.

A statement by the army said that two soldiers were killed on Thursday as one explosive went off targeting their vehicle in Baghdad while the third was killed after he was hit by bullets near Alexandria area in Baghdad.

One Iraqi was also killed and one police man injured in a booby trapped car explosion near (Imams) bridge which witnessed a stampede incident on Wednesday that resulted in killing about 1000 persons. The area witnessed armed clashes between the police and supporters of the Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sader on Thursday evening that resulted in killing one person and injuring seven.

One foreign security employee, whose identity was not revealed, was killed and another was gravely injured when one bomb blew up by their vehicle in the center of Baghdad.

Two explosions were heard in the center of the capital. Reports indicated that the first explosion was near al-Sadeer hotel in the city center, while the other explosion targeted a vehicle for the American army. No reports were available on casualties.

In the city of Basra, witnesses said that one person was killed at least when gunmen opened fire at two mosques for the Sunnis in the city which is inhabited by a Shiite majority.

A source in the Islamic Party said that the first attack took place when the worshippers were in their dawn prayers in Maziil mosque, in al-Zubeir area, southwest of the city, while the second attack was against worshippers in al-Rashedeyah mosque in the same area.
