US bombard west of Iraq, Italy reduces forces
Iraq, Military, 9/2/2005

One security source in Iraq said that one person was killed and other seven injured during fire exchange on Thursday evening near "Imams" bridge in Baghdad where some 1000 persons were killed in the stampede on Wednesday.

The news said that the clash took place between Iraqi soldiers and supporters of the Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sader who visited the place as an expression for their anger over what they considered a violation of security arrangements on the bridge. However, another source said that the clash took place between al-Sader supporters and Sunni citizens.

The clash took place while hundreds were buried in al-Sader city in Baghdad and in Najaf, south of Baghdad, victims of the incident, which resulted in the largest single day human loss inflicted on Iraq since the American invasion in 2003.

In a scene revealing the great catastrophe, the empty coffins were taken from the open mass grave to come back with more bodies just few moments later amid the weeping of people who lost their relatives.

Meantime, a large fire erupted on Thursday in a trade center composed of 8 storeys in the downtown of Baghdad.

Also, The American air forces raised positions said to be for al-Qaida organization in Iraq in al-Huseibeh town west of Iraq on the Syrian border, but no human casualties were reported.

A statement by the American army said on Thursday that the American jets destroyed a building where 50 of the followers of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi were hiding, according to what it called intelligence information. This raid came two days after one air raid resulted in killing 56 persons in al-Qaem area on the borders with Syria.

On the other hand, the spokesman for the US Department Of State said that his country understands Italy's decision to reduce its forces deployed in southern Iraq as new Italian shifts are leaving Iraq shortly. He said that this is a withdrawal step planned for since a long time.
