Zahar: Consultations on new round of inter-Palestinian dialogue in Cairo
Palestine-Egypt, Politics, 8/31/2005

Mahmoud Al Zahar, a prominent member of Hamas political leadership, revealed that a new round of inter-Palestinian dialogue is to be held in Egypt.

Palestinian factions and members of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas are to hold consultations in order to set a time for the new round.

Zahar said the cooling-off period with Israel is conditional, namely it depends on halting Israeli aggression on the Palestinians in accordance with the Cairo Declaration, under which the Palestinian factions agreed to commit to the Cairo- brokered ceasefire with Israel.

He further expressed appreciation of Egypt's active role in the current stage, underlining that he probed with Suleiman a host of issues pertaining to the post-Israeli withdrawal stage.

"We have the right to repel any Israeli aggression," said Zahar, adding "I think this retaliation is acceptable to all."

Commenting on Rafah land crossing, Zahar said the situation is not clear now; we have to wait till Minister Suleiman meets with Israeli officials.

He pointed out that the Palestinian people and the movement gave priority to the issue of the Palestinian detainees inside Israeli jails.
