Lahoud plays down the interrogation of Lebanese security officials in Hariri assassination
Lebanon, Politics, 8/31/2005

The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud played down the importance of summoning former Lebanese security officials to be brought as suspects before the UN investigation committee on the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri.

Lahoud said, before a US congressional delegation, that what is taking place falls in the course of investigations carried out by the committee, and no warrant of arrest was issued to anyone, adding that the mass media tells other stories, and plays news for internal political reasons and talk about arrests while the matter is just investigations.

Lahoud commended the commander of the republic's guards Maj. Gen. Mustafa Hamdan who was one of those summoned in the investigation, and said that he is one of the best Lebanese army officers and that he had proved during his military career high performance and capability.
