Saudi Arabia foils attacks

The Saudi authorities announced on Friday that a breaking in operations carried out by the Saudi security forces against al-Qaida organization members n August 18 prevented the occurrence of "nearby" aggressions.

In a statement, the Saudi ministry of interior said that confrontations between the security forces and Islamists extremists included in addition to Riyadh and al-Madina al-Munawarra, the city of Ar'ar, which is close to the borders with Iraq.

The statement which was coupled by pictures about security breaking in operations stressed "the security forces were able to know about the criminal gangs and disclosing their schemes and evil works and barring nearby aggressions." A security source said that the Saudi security forces arrested 41 persons of suspected extremists in a series of security campaigns in various parts of the kingdom since the killing of the man al-Qaida leader in the country less than ten days before.
