American policy sieges Syria and Lebanon: Venezuelan Official
Syria-Venezuela, Politics, 8/26/2005

Charge d'Affairs of the Venezuela's Embassy in Damascus, Ghazi Naser Ed-Din, has said that the American policy that is "based on the preemptive war which has killed thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan and targeting Syria and Lebanon can be attributed to many allegations."

In a statement to al-Thawra daily published Thursday, Naseredin added that his country appreciates Syria's role in defending her position, saying "We feel that Syria like our country is threatened, so we should make alliance in facing the American schemes."

He condemned the American televangelist Pat Robertson's statements which called for the assassination of President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, describing them as terrorism. He stressed that his country connects these terrorist statements, in which the American religious figure called on the US intelligence agency to assassinate President Chavez, with the American terrorist acts in Iraq.

Robertson, had said that President Chavez is turning Venezuela, a large exporter of oil to the US, into a base for communists and Islamists and should be assassinated, issued an oppology later for his remarks as being inappropriate, according to CNN.

Ed-Din reiterated what President Chavez said that the American administration constitutes a big danger to humanity, asserting that the Venezuelan people have chosen their president with more than 80% of the votes, and in 8 successive elections. He held the American administration responsible for supporting the terrorist organizations in Venezuela in order to topple the regime.
