Workshop on democratic change in the Arab states

The International Center for Future and Strategic Studies organized a workshop on Tuesday on the impact of democratic change on the structures of the Arab states.
The workshop was organized in cooperation with Al-Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies.
Kamal el-Menoufi Dean of Cairo University's faculty of economics and political science and moderator of the workshop told participants that democratic change and political reform have become an issue of major importance in many of the Arab states.
Although there is no ready-made formula that could be fit for all states seeking democratic change, one should not use that as a pretext to delay action in this direction pointing out that delay would be detrimental to the Arab communities.
He also said that democratic change in the Arab states face tremendous challenges.
Participants, representing several specialized Arab organizations spoke of democratic change and reconciliatory efforts in Iraq and Sudan and their impact on the structure of Arab states.
