Israel evacuates four settlements in occupied West Bank
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/24/2005
The Israeli occupation forces ended the evacuation of the two settlements of Houmesh and Sanour, north of the occupied West Bank, following a difficult day of confrontations with Jewish extremists who were hiding inside it.
By completing this mission, the occupation forces have completed all steps of pulling out the settlers from all settlements of Gaza and four settlements in the West Bank.
The Israeli forces used bulldozers to destroy gates of Houmesh settlement, and members of the Israeli police entered one synagogue in the settlement and mopped up its houses. The Israeli radio said that Israeli settlers burnt for the first time one Israeli flag during the evacuation operation.
In Sanour settlement, members of the Israeli police took the settlers by forces from inside one synagogue where they were hiding protesting against the evacuation of the settlement. The process of evacuating Sarour ended after each four Israeli soldiers carried one settler without causing casualties.
Al-Jazeera TV said that the Israeli army will not leave the settlements of the occupied West Bank, contrary to what it will do in Gaza next month.
By evacuating the two settlements, the occupation forces would have completed a large scale operation considered to be the most difficult of the Israeli government plan to dismantle liaison with the Palestinians. As for the two settlements of Ghaneim and Kadeim, their citizens evacuated them peacefully and the Israeli forces will shortly start their destruction.
The Israeli army had transported airborne forces from Gaza to the north of the West Bank in order to take part in the operation after it had completed withdrawal from Gaza.
In Qabateyah town south of Jenin, three Palestinians were injured, one of them is an activist in the Islamic Jihad movement called Jihad Zakarenah in clashes with the occupation forces which incurred in the city situated south of the settlers, reinforced by 20 armored vehicles, according to al-Jazeera tv.
Meantime, the US Department Of State said yesterday it was not aware of news reports which spoke of settlers who were evacuated from Gaza relocating back in the occupied West Bank.
