al-Thawra: Number of Turkish Tourists increasing
Syria-Turkey, Economics, 8/23/2005

The number of Turkish tourists to Syria has seen remarkable growth in 2005 in comparison with the last years, al-Thawra daily said Monday. "The number of Turkish tourists in 2005 reached 96,000 compared with 22,000 in 2004, 12,000 in 2003, 10,000 in 2001 and 5,000 in 2000," the paper added.

The daily attributed reasons of this increase to the facilities that Syria and Turkey have adopted on their borders, the increase of the crossing points and air flights in the light of the political rapprochement, in addition to the economic and trade cooperation.

"Syria and Turkey are connected by tourist agreement signed in Ankara in the year 1972, this agreement was supported by 6 executive programs," The daily said pointing out that tourist cooperation between the two countries includes exchange of information, expertise, training programs as well facilitating tourists movement.
