Marathon to support Syrian prisoners in Israeli jails
Syria-Israel, Politics, 8/23/2005
Director of the Public Relations at Areeba Telecom Company in Syria, Fares Kallas, announced that a marathon of all walks of life in Syria would kick off on Friday morning to support Syrian prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails.
Kallas told a news conference on Monday in Damascus that Areeba sponsors this marathon out of its belief in the effective participation of all political, social, cultural and educational activities of the Syrian society to shed lights on the difficult conditions suffered by the prisoners and their families in the occupied Syrian Golan.
He added the Marathon would start from al-Jala'a Stadium in Damascus down to Omayad and al-Marja Squares where winners would be rewarded.
The marathon is organized by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and Areeba.
For his part, Head of the Committee for the Support of Syrian Prisoners and Detainees in Israeli Jails, Midhat Saleh, underscored the importance of this event for the support of the prisoners and their families in the occupied Syrian Golan and for the alleviation of their sufferings under Israeli oppression.
Saleh stressed that Syrian prisoners in the Golan are suffering from mistreatment and oppression and deteriorated health situations, calling on international organizations and humanitarian agencies "to verify by themselves the great sufferings of the Syrian prisoners in Israeli jails."
