Four Algerians killed in acts of violence
Algeria, Politics, 8/20/2005

Four persons were killed and a fifth was injured in the most recent attack attributed to armed Islamic groups in Algeria.

This was despite the announcement made by the Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika last week for making a referendum by the end of September on national reconciliation in the country, and issuing a general pardon.

Since the beginning of August, acts of violence in Algeria resulted in killing 17 persons, according to statistics based on official and press statements. Despite continued attacks of gunmen and the Algerian army operation against them, the acts of violence witnessed a great recession in Algeria since the Summer of 2003.

In the efforts made to halt the cycle of violence ultimately in Algeria, the Algeria president announced last Sunday organizing a citizen referendum on September 29th to approve a charter for peace and reconciliation.

This project, which was disclosed by Butaflika in the nation's address stated pardoning members of the armed groups and persons who were involved in acts of violence and those pursued by the Algerian judiciary, for handing over themselves voluntarily to specialized sides and to give up violence.
