Wanted Saudi among the killed in clashes
Saudi Arabia, Local, 8/20/2005
The Saudi Arabian authorities announced on Friday the killing of one wanted person suspected to be a member in al-Qaida organization, in clashes which took place with the security forces on Thursday in the capital Riyadh.
It was the same day when one of the main leaders of al-Qaida organization was killed in another confrontation in al-Madina al-Munawara city.
In a statement, the Saudi ministry of interior said that Majid al-Haseri, 29 years old, whose name was mentioned on the list of the main 36 most wanted in the kingdom, issued on June, was killed in an "explosion," which means he committed suicide.
The statement which was quoted by the TV said that the remains, which were found at the site which was besieged by the security forces in Riyadh resulted in a nearby explosion, are for the wanted Najid Bin Hamid Bin Abdullah al-Haseiri. The explosion resulted in killing one person, but the ministry of interior talked about human remains and one corpse which indicate the possibility of having more than one body.
In its statement, the Saudi ministry of interior said it was able to identify the identity of one activist who was killed with Al-Qaida leader, al-Oufi. He is Muhammad Bin Abdullah Oweida, of the Saudi nationality.
The ministry talked about the detention of 11 persons during the clashes of Thursday and that the security forces arrested several sides which have links directly to this cell in various areas in the kingdom, according to the statement.
The Riyadh and al-Madina al-Munawara explosions are the first since the investiture of King Abdullah in August 1, in succession of King Fahd.
These clashes came following warning launched last week by the USA, Australia, Britain, Canada and Germany about nearby terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi authorities detained one suspect whose is on the list of wanted persons. Another one handed himself to the authorities. There is also one Yemeni mentioned on the list, detained in his country. By the killing of al-Hasiri there are still 31 fleeing wanted.
Since the beginning of the wave of violence in Saudi Arabia in May 2003, some 90 civilians were killed together with 43 security forces members and 116 suspects to have links to al-Qaida organization.
