Tareq Aziz to be freed shortly, lawyer says

The lawyer of the Iraqi former Vice President, Tareq Aziz, on Thursday expected the release of his client very soon without trial. Aziz is detained for being a part of the government of the toppled president Saddam Hussein.

Lawyer Badee Aref, who met with Aziz in his American prison on Tuesday said "I expect he will be released shortly, but not within days."

Aziz added that the American forces have been since days allowing him more meetings with his client. He did specify the legal developments that enabled him to expect the release of Aziz shortly.

Aref explained that there are legal elements which emerged in the investigations "that formed a conviction in me that Aziz will be released shortly," noting that his client was exposed to 152 investigations session. He continued "investigations might have ended .. I do not know."
