Syria-Iraq, Politics, 8/18/2005
The Arab human rights in Syria said on Wednesday that three Syrian truck drivers are being detained in Abu Ghreib prison in Iraq since almost two months, after they were held by the American occupation forces on their way back to Damascus.
In a statement the organization said that "the American occupation forces detained three Syrians working as drivers. They are Muhammad and Khaled Turkey Fahmaz and Hamzeh Abdul Salamm Fajmaz in al-Qaem area" near the Iraqi borders with Syria, upon their rteun back to Syrian on June 22.
The organization indicated it "contacted the ICRC (Red Cross) and learnt that the three Syrians were not tried, and no accusation was addressed to them." It called on the "UN, Amnesty International, the ICRC and all humanitarian and legal organizations in the world to interfere with the American government to disclose the names of Syrians held by it, to release them and send them back to Syria."
