Number of persons killed in Baghdad's bombings increased

At least 55 Iraqis were killed and more than 80 injured in a series of operations took place in Iraq on Wednesday, described as the most violent since more than one month.

Some 43 persons were killed in two booby trapped cars explosions in main bus station in Baghdad with ten minutes time difference while another booby trapped car went off near al-Kindi hospital.

However, for the first time in months, the Iraqi security sources have not talked about suicide operations.

Six Iraqi soldiers were also killed on Wednesday west of Karkouk. Sheikh Ali al-Shumarri, member of the Muslim Scholars and another member in the commission were killed in Baghdad, while the American army announced the killing of five of its soldiers in the past 60 hours.

The source indicated that the third explosion which took place 30 minutes later near al-Kindi hospital which is close to this bus station where victims of the first explosion were admitted to receive medical treatment. The source also indicated that 22 cars were damaged, three of which were police cars.

Sources in the Iraqi police expected number the of victims to increase in the coming hours because there are bodies that were not taken out yet from the site of the explosions.

In another development, six Iraqi soldiers were killed as they were attacked by an unidentified gunmen as they were leaving a base for the Iraqi army in al-Hweijeh area west of Karkouk.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the American army said that five of its soldiers were killed in Iraq in the past 48 hours.

The statement explained that one of those soldiers were killed when their vehicle was attacked by one explosive in southwest of Baghdad on Tuesday while the other four were killed on Monday, one of them in an armed attack north of Baghdad, and three of them were killed when their vehicle had an accident.
