Syria denies crisis on borders with Lebanon
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 8/17/2005
Syria denied Tuesday what has been circulated by media today about a crisis in trucks' movement into Syria from Lebanon through Jdaidat Yabous crossing border point.
In a statement to SANA, General Manager of Customs Bassel Sannoufa called on the media to be accurate about the issue of the crossing border points, warning against "some parties who aim at harming fraternal relations between the two countries through creating baseless rumors." He added that more than 130 trucks passed overnight through Jdaidet Yabous border point towards Nasib on the Syrian-Jordanian borders and Tanf on the Syrian-Iraqi borders.
He also pointed out to contradiction between what is being circulated by the media and the reality, asserting that facilities extended to the Lebanese trucks made General Manager of the Lebanese Customs, Asaad Ghanim, phone Sanoufa to thank the Syrian government for the speed in which the movement of trucks loaded with phosphate to Lebanon is taking place.
He underscored that there is "an unprecedented movement through al-Masnaa and Jdaidet Yabous crossing border points," noting that there are today 95 trucks and all of them will enter Syria after being inspected.
