Palestinian cling to the 'right of return'
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 8/17/2005
The Palestinian refugees in Jordan stressed their attachment to "the Right Of Return" and the establishment of the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the Palestinian soil.
The Palestinian refugees denied statements made recently by UN agency for refugee commissioner (UNRWA) general Karen Abu Zeid to an Israeli paper on that the Palestinian refugees donot care about the "Right Of Return". The Palestinians demanded her to clarify what she was quoted saying.
The committee in charge of defending the right of the Palestinian refugees in Jordan considered in a statement on Tuesday in Amman that Abu Zeid's statements violate to the rights and lands of the Palestinians, as well as being a support for the Israeli ambitions to chop their right to return back to their homeland Palestine from which they were made refugees.
The committee found in these statements contradiction with the International law and the UN on the ground that UNRWA being established by the UN to improve the conditions of the Palestinian refugees so as to be able to return back to their home according to UN Security Council resolution no. 194 of August 11, 1948.
Besides Jordan, Lebanon and Syria have large Palestinian refugee populations where the "Right Of Return" is a major concern.
The statement stressed the rejection of the Palestinian refugees to any initiative or solution for their case that is not based on confirming their unwavering right to return home, as well as rejecting all forms of settlements and expulsion and the policies aiming at deviating UNRWA from set objectives.
