Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday arrived in Sirte on an official visit to Libya during which he held talks with Leader of the Libyan Revolution, Muammar al-Qathafi, and Algerian President Abdel Aziz Butaflika, who arrived here earlier in the day on a surprise visit.
The three-way meeting probed means of activating inter-Arab action along with other issues of mutual concern.
The three Arab leaders took up the current regional situation with emphasis on the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank.
The summit also dealt with the situation in Iraq.
President Mubarak was accompanied by a delegation grouping Minister of Defense Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi, Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit and Zakarya Azmi, Chief of the Presidential Cabinet.
The summit also discussed means of supporting the Palestinian Authority, ambassador Soliman Awwad said.
Ambassador Soliman Awwad said the three-way summit probed the situation on the Iraqi arena in light of the drafting of a new Iraqi constitution, scheduled to be ready on Monday, adding that the draft was an important step on the political process track in Iraq.
Awwad further said the three leaders also to tackled the situation in the African continent, with emphasis on Sudan and the Horn of Africa.
The summit is significant as it comes within the framework of the three Arab leaders' consultations, said Awwad, underlining that the summit also tackled special preparations for an emergency Arab summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, which President Mubarak had called for.
Meanwhile; Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday hailed Egyptian-Libyan relations as brotherly.
In press statements, President Mubarak, said that his current visit to Libya falls within the framework of mutual consultations between the two countries.
The Egyptian delegation had joined the three-way talks between Mubarak, Qathafi and Bouteflika.
Also, Abdel Rahman Shalgam, Secretary General of Libya's People's Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation, together with Abu Bakr Younis Jaber, member of the Libyan Revolution Command Council, attended the meeting.
