Fears of attacks in Saudi Arabia lessen
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 8/11/2005
The US diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia announced the reopening of its headquarters in the kingdom two days of closing them over Washington fears that its interest will be attacked.
A statement issued by the US embassy in Riyadh confirmed that normal work has resumed at the embassy and to the two consulates in Jeddah and al-Zahran following a revision of recent information concerning threats to American installations in the kingdom. However, the statement of the embassy renewed call on American citizens to take all caution during their visit to trade centers and places frequented by westerners.
The Saudi authorities announced earlier that it has not confirmed information about threats on nearby attacks, and the ministry of the interior confirmed taking all necessary security measures in this regard.
Washington also warned in July its citizens living in Saudi Arabia that extremists are planning new attacks, and prevented its military men from moving in parts of the kingdom.
The warning came at a time when the Saudi security forces said it found amounts of weapons outside the capital Riyadh with two tons of chemicals.
For its part, Britain warned on Monday that some extremists are in the final stages of preparing attacks in Saudi Arabia.
Oil prices increased on Wednesday to reach standard level and exceeded $ 64 for one barrel of oil. This increase in oil prices was partially attributed to fears over attacks in Saudi Arabia.
