Weld al-Taye arrived in Gambia, Libya supports Mauritanians

Toppled Mauritanian President Mu'aweya weld Seidi Ahmad al-Taye arrive din Banjoul, capital of Gambia where he chose asylum just one day after he had called on his supporters and members of the army to move to restore back conditions to what they were before his forced removal from power.
Meantime, African mediators continued their efforts to convince the new leadership on the need to return to the constitutional system, this, after the African Union suspended Mauritania's membership. Washington supported the African Union in its decision and said it and others partners push Nouakchott to abide by international law and honor the will of people.
The African delegation which is led by Nigeria's foreign minister met with the chairman of the military council in Mauritania col. Ali Weld Muhammad and other members of the military council which he had formed.
Libya who kept silent for several days like other Arab Maghreb states started to express openly its support for the new regime under the pretext of honoring the will of the people of Mauritania.
The Libyan foreign minister Abdul Rahman Shalqam said after his meeting with the leader of the coupe that the will of the people of Mauritania should be taken into account.
Shalqam added that "after listening to words of the chairman of the military council, there is an impression that the people of Mauritania started to support this change" adding that Libya supports what the people of Mauritania support.
The Libyan official news agency JANA said Libyan contacts with Mauritania are die to its role as chairman of the Maghreb union states, and wanted to inquire about conditions and intentions in order to relay this information to the other Maghreb union member states.
