Egypt's NDP endorses election campaign agenda

The bureau of the National Democratic Party in Egypt yesterday endorsed the executive steps of the party action during the election campaign which was approved by President Hosni Mubarak, the nominee of the National Democratic Party to the presidential elections.
The NDP bureau approved suggestions by the NDP members of the People's Assembly and the Shura Council for holding rallies in their constituencies.
Safwat Al- Sherif, the Secretary General of the National Democratic Party said the bureau endorsed the plan of action at the level of villages, districts and governorates which will be carried out upon the declaration by the President of his platform.
Meantime, the presidential election campaign is currently examining contests by ten candidates who have been ruled out from the initial list of the party candidates.
Al -Ahram learnt that the committee excluded the ten candidates for many reasons among which are the domestic conflicts on the chairmanship of their parties.
On his part, Dr. Osama Shaltut, the chairman of Al Takaful Party and its presidential candidate stressed the importance of solving the daily problem of citizens adding his platform gives priority to solving the problems of unemployment, marriage, housing, education and training as well as medical treatment.
Dr. Rifaat Al Agroudy, the chairman of the National Wefaq (Reconciliation) Party and its presidential candidate called for combating corruption, and cancelling martial law.
He called for giving wider attention to heavy industries and giving the Egyptian investors privileges equal to foreign investors.
He also called for holding parliamentary elections through slates system.
He called for election of the university presidents and faculty deans.
In a related development, Evangilican Churches in Egypt called on citizens to contribute positively in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
Bishop Safwat Al Bayady, the chairman of the Evangelican community said this positive participation is a must.
