Syria's Muslim Brothers for comprehensive change and participation of all
Syria, Politics, 8/6/2005
The Muslim Brothers group in Syria has called for a comprehensive fundamental change, noting that the current Syrian regime "does not want to read current events correctly."
The group's Shoura council said in a statement that crowned its third ordinary session in London that "the current Syrian regime is not capable of reforms" and described it of racism and intransigent.
The statement added that resolutions of the 10th congress of the Syrian Baath party proved that "there is a numbered isolated group that does not want to read events correctly, nor to comprehend change, besides persisting to use the state and the society and all establishments of the country for its own individual interests."
The group renewed the call for a national congress that does not exclude any side, rather represents all sects and ethnic groups, saying that it "rejects to be empowered by the foreigner." The statement of the group recalled what it said that scores of thousands of Syrians are missing beside other thousands of Syrians evacuees, deploring "the sufferings of the Kurds who are deprived of their humanitarian, civilian and cultural rights," as it alleged.
Worthy mentioning that the Muslim Brothers groups was banned in Syria since 1980. The Syrian law states death penalty for membership in the group.
