Syria, Lebanon discuss supplying Lebanon with electricity
Syria-Lebanon, Economics, 8/5/2005

Syria and Lebanon are to discuss supplying Lebanon with electricity according to a singed accord between the two states, Secretary General of the Syrian -Lebanese Higher Council announced on Thursday.

Nasri el-Khouri said in a statement after meeting Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Mohammed Fennish, "I have agreed with the Minister of Energy to prepare for holding the meeting of ministerial committees for electricity affairs in Damascus to discuss resupplying Lebanon with electricity." He noted that this step is provided with Lebanon's paying debts resulting from investing electricity in the last period, as it was agreed upon setting follow up dates to the two committees on oil, gas and water.

Worth noting, that even areas which are closest to Syria, such as the Bekaa Valley, suffer daily electricity outages, many years after the civil war has ended. Syria had a military presence in the area for years. And the Lebanese government has not solved this problem years after the end of the civil war.
