Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails committee urge UN support
Lebanon-Israel-UN, Politics, 8/3/2005

The Lebanese follow up committee in support of the detainees at Israeli jails called on Tuesday upon the Lebanese government and parliament to lodge an urgent complaint to the UN Security Council over the situation of the Lebanese detainees.

"The complaint is to protest the remaining of a number of Lebanese prisoners and missed persons, as well martyrs' corpses (being held) as hostages for (deal) swamping, at Israeli jails."

This call by the group was to inform the UN Secretary General representative in Beirut and members of the foreign diplomatic circles, of Lebanon's strong objection "to the nonstop arrest of detainees, and to the hundreds of missing persons, which poses as a violation of human rights," the committee statement said.

The committee asked for a quick Lebanese drive at the international forums to express to speak of those detainees and missed suffering, as well as to send a parliamentary delegation to the European Parliament and the United Nations to defend Lebanon's right to restore Lebanese who have been held prisoners at Israeli jails.
