Wafd party leader to run in coming presidential elections
Egypt, Politics, 8/2/2005

The opposition al-Wafd Party leader Noman Gomaa said Monday that he will run in the coming presidential elections due on September 7.

Speaking at a press conference, the opposition leader said the party has voted 30-10 in favor of participating in the coming presidential race.

Al Wafd leader told reporters that he would register with the election committee Tuesday or Wednesday, promising coordination with other opposition parties to launch an election campaign and eventually win it.

The opposition leader said his platform is the same which his party has long stood for freedom, democracy, abolishing emergency laws and setting the economic scene for luring more foreign direct investments.
