Signatures of one million Iraqis rejecting occupation
Iraq, Politics, 7/30/2005

One official in the trend of the Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sader said that they collected the signatures of one million Iraqis who reject foreign occupation of their country.

Sheikh Abdul Zahra al-Saeedi, during Friday's sermon in al-Sader city of the Shiite majority, said that the campaign which was called for by al-Sader shows the world the rejection of the Iraqis for the foreign presence.

In another development, hundreds of Iraqis demonstrated at the invitation of the Iraqi Islamic Party after Friday's prayers in front of the Green Zone area to deplore the acts of detention launched by the forces of the Iraqi army and police.

This came at a time when Baghdad announced appointing member of the Muslim Scholars Commission, Sheikh Ahmad Abdul Ghaffour al-Samera', as a chairman for the Sunni Waqf divan instead of Adnan al-Dulemi.

Al-Samera' said he will start his work as from next Sunday, stressing that there will be no change of direction in the work of the divan.

For his part, Adnan al-Duleimi said he was removed from his post because of his defense of the Sunni community rather than because of administrative and financial issues. Al-Duleimi stressed his determination to lead the Sunni community, calling on them to participate in the political process in the country.
