Jordanian party wants end to peace agreement with Israel
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 7/27/2005
An opposition Jordanian leftist party vowed to proceed in its peaceful effort to put an end to the peace agreement signed between Jordan and Israel about a one decade ago.
The secretary general of the Democratic People's Party, Ahmad Youssef Amin, said that the treaty has become an "official standard" for the successive Jordanian governments in drawing its internal and external policies, describing it as an obstruction to internal reforms and national progress.
He stressed, in press statements after he was elected as a secretary general for the party, his party's cling to peaceful means for a rotating presidency, democratic buildup and ensuring social participation.
He also called for building alliances among the national liberation trends and enhancing cooperation between the Arab and Islamic environment, and the effort against what he called "the imperialist- Zionist alliance", stressing the importance of restoring back people's and official consensus for solving the Palestinian issue.
He considered that the wall of separation being built by Israel in the West Bank constitutes a double danger against each of Palestine and Jordan to that it bans the establishment of a Palestinian state and forces thousands of Palestinians to emigrate to Jordan.
He called on the Jordanian government to stop its official rapprochement with Israel, noting that this serves Israel's normalization of its relations with the Arab states.
He refused relying on foreign aid, especially with the USA, noting that this aid resulted in making the Jordanian official policy subservient to the "American pressures" and contribution in carrying out Washington's programs and plans aimed at the region.
