Future work to add to Ugarit history understanding
Syria, Local, 7/27/2005
The Syrian - French archeological mission has finished the excavation work at the archeological site of Ugarit at Ra's Sharma area in the Syrian coastal province of Lattakia, where the team outlined geometry studies of the royal palace area and performed archeological probes in the Temple of Ba'l to reinterpret its history correctly and prepare it to next year's restoration.
Director of Ruins Department in Lattakia, Jamal Heider, stressed in a statement to SANA that excavation and digging work led to discovering some walls of the Ugarit city under Ottoman tombs layer.
The Museums and Ruins Department in Lattakia is currently performing many restoration archeological activities on the ancient ruins in the province and its areas to organize and protect them as a witness to successive civilizations on the Syrian coastal land.
