Zaqzouq: New plan for Islamic call
Egypt, Politics, 7/26/2005

Egypt's Minister of Awkaf (religious endowments) Hamdi Zaqzouq, the Chairman of the Higher Council for Islamic Affairs, chaired a lengthy meeting with the Islamic call leaderships at his ministry for forging an urgent plan for Islamic awareness in the wake of Sharm el-Sheikh terror incidents.

The minister said that the new plan focuses on combating all forms of terror. On his part, the grant Mufti of the republic Ali Goma condemned on Monday the killing of innocent civilians, saying that t"he grisly terrorist operations were indicative for disrespect of religion and of illogical motives."

"Terror is the killing of innocent civilians and seeking to spark internal sedition as it" happens in Iraq," the leading scholar told university students.

Goma, however, said that resisting the occupation was a religious duty enshrined in all religions.

He said Islam is strongly against terrorism, noting that the "Holy Qur'an described the terrorists as the archenemies, hypocrites, misled and misleading."
