Shara, Za'anoun discuss developments in the Palestinian territories
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 7/26/2005
Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara on Monday underlined the need for boosting the Palestinian national unity in facing current challenges since "it is the only guarantee for restoring Palestinian legitimate rights of return, sovereignty and establishing their independent state."
In a meeting with Speaker of the Palestinian National Council, Salim al-Za'anoun, both sides discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian lands.
In a statement to the press following the meeting, Za'anoun pointed out that he briefed Shara on the situation in Gaza Strip and "on Israeli policies in the Palestinian territories that aim at sowing discard among the Palestinians."
He expressed appreciation over Syria's stance towards the Palestinian issue and Syria's care for the Palestinian national unity.
"I'll meet Palestinian factions in Damascus to invigorate the Palestinian Liberation Organization and to agree on establishing a Palestinian national council to represent the Palestinians inside and outside the Palestinian territories," he added.
