Al-Jazeera: Clashes during chase of Sharm al-Sheikh bombers
Egypt, Local, 7/26/2005
The Egyptian security forces are besieging areas near Sharm al-Sheikh tourism resort under allegations that many suspects are hiding there.
Al-Jazeera correspondents in Egypt said that a fire exchange took place between the security forces and suspects in Rweisat village, 220 km from the Gulf of Nemeh.
On the other hand, the correspondent quoted the spokesman for the Pakistani embassy that the embassy did not receive any information of that Pakistanis have links to the Sharm al-Sheikh explosions. This came after the Egyptian security authorities published pictures for 6 Pakistanis, out of nine, suspected to be behind the explosions. The security authorities say they might had entered the country with false Jordanian passports.
Among the wanted names are Muhammad Akhtar ( 30 year old) and Tasaduq Hussein ( 18 year old) while the police expected that one of them was killed in the explosions. Other sources close to the investigations explained that is ongoing for the other three.
In the course of the investigations carried out by the authorities, well-informed sources said that the explosions which were used were hidden under vegetables in transport trucks that was able to infiltrate the resort.
Security sources asked to be anonymous, because of the sensitivity of the investigations, indicated that one of the trucks infiltrated to Ghazala Gardens hotel and the executor of the operation implanted one bag filled with explosives in a car parking station, while the other truck headed towards an area close to the hotel's reception hall. Another truck headed to another hotel but could not have access to it because of traffic problems.
Other sources said that the investigations inclined now to know whether there is a link between these explosions and the explosions that took place in Taba in October 2004. The Egyptian authorities found remains believed to be for the executor of Ghazala Hotel explosion in Sharm al-Sheikh.
Al-Jazeera correspondent in Cairo said that the authorities have been testing the found remains to examine the DNA so as to make sure that these are for Muhammad Saleh Fleifel who is accused of being involved in Taba explosions and is being tried in absentia because of that.
