Zeibari warns Turkey from incursion into Iraq
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 7/25/2005
The Iraqi foreign minister Hoshiar Zeibari warned on Sunday against any Turkish military incursion to chase members of the Kurdistani Workers Party in northern Iraq, noting that this will destabilize the country's security.
Zeibari said that the American forces in Iraq are actually prepared to chase members of the group, whom he said are "in areas far from the control of the central government and the Kurdish government" in north Iraq. He added "the American forces might arrest them if they move. We have an obligation towards Turkey which is to control all armed non- Iraqi groups and prevent them from attacking neighboring states."
Zeibari stressed that Iraq "rejects any regional military intervention in its affairs being Turkish, Iranian or an Arab."
