Egyptian detentions over Sharm al-Sheikh explosions

The Egyptian security forces launched a large scale attack in Sinai in search of persons suspected of carrying out the explosions in Sharm al-Sheikh which resulted in killing 88 persons, including 7 foreigners and more than 200 injured.

Egyptian security sources said that the authorities arrested during the continued breaking-in operation more than 96 suspects to investigate them who were arrested on Saturday while other 60 suspects were arrested simultaneously in the north Sinai area.

Other security sources said that among the detained were persons recently released after they were detained in attacks within the Taba attacks. The investigators study the possibility of foreign hands in the attacks.

Meanwhile, more than 1000 workers of Egyptian hotels, Bedouins Sheikhs, and foreign trainers in diving schools carried out a march on Sharm al-Sheikh deploring the explosions, while hundreds of Arab and foreign tourists have left Sharm al-Sheikh.

On the other hand, the supreme state security court, emergency court in al-Isma'eleyah to the east of Cairo, decided to adjourn the trial of persons accused in the Taba explosions until August 14 in order to give time for summoning witnesses. The witnesses are to include the director of southern Sinai security and the director of Hilton Taba hotel and one officer from north Sinai police. Two accused persons were brought before the court. They are Muhammad Jaber Hussein Abdullah and Muhammad Abdullah Rabba. The third accused persons is Muhammad Ahmad Fleifel who had fled. The trial session was attended by 11 layers and one representative for the US-based Human Rights Watch organization.
