Syria-Israel-UN, Politics, 7/23/2005
Syria called Thursday upon the UN Security Council to take procedures that guarantee Israel's full abidance by international resolutions relevant to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
"It is a need that the UN Security Council take procedures that are characterized by courage to compel Israel to comply with UN resolutions, and an end is put to violence and bloodshed cucles which prevented over the last decades the achievement of just and comprehensive peace in this region of the world," Syria's Permanent representative to the UN Faisal Miqdad told the UN Security Council debate on the Middle East.
Miqdad noted that the nonstop illegal Israeli occupation to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as the Syrian Golan, was increasing Arab citizens suffering from the plight of this occupation and its catastrophic consequences on the economic, social and human levels.
"The recent Israeli escalation against the Palestinians is posing as part of an endless series of the scandalous Israeli violations of human rights and international law," he said.
He noted that Israel is making use of different weak pretexts in its war against the Palestinians citizens saying that, "the fact of the conflict in the region is related to the Israeli military and war occupation for another people and their land, as well the continuous aggression against Syrian territories and Palestinian territories and their peoples from Israel, an occupying country." Miqdad underlined that "the reality of the conflict is connected to Israel's refusal to end occupation of the Arab territories and its ambition for more land acquisition by force, and expelling more Palestinians from their homes and lands by spreading death, destruction and misery."
He criticized Israel's refusal to abide by advice of the International Court of Justice in its decision on the separating wall in Palestine, adding that Israel expressed its disregard to international law by that its negligence to the ruling of the highest legal board in the world, as well the international community will.
