Badran government wins confidence of Jordanian parliament
Jordan, Politics, 7/22/2005
The Jordanian government chaired by Adnan badran won the confidence of the parliament, after five days of intensive discussions about its policies towards reforms and the issue of increasing fuel prices.
Some 66 parliamentarians voted confidence in the government, while no-confidence was voted by 37, and 6 abstained from voting, one was absent out of the parliament's 110 seats.
Badran formed his government on April 7 but faced strong objections from 50 parliamentarians who threatened to cast non-confidence. A matter which pushed the prime minister to introduce a ministerial reshuffle.
Badran's government program included the decision announced earlier this month to increase fuel prices by 10% to 30%, in addition to a series of measures to reduce government spending and deficits.
