Le Figaro: Mustafa Hamdan changed scene of the Hariri assassination , UN official
Lebanon-UN, Politics, 7/21/2005
Concerning the file to the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, head of the UN regional media office in Lebanon, Najib Freiji, said that the chairman of the UN Investigation Committee, Detleve Meles, had not accused the leader of the Lebanese republic's guards, lt. Gen. Mustafa Hamdan, nor any other person in the assassination operation of al-Hariri.
This came in an interview Freji made with the French daily Le Figaro, but he added that there is a suspicion that Hamdan gave his order to change the scene of the crime immediately after its occurrence.
Meles, on the other hand, disclosed to the French daily Israel's cooperation in the investigation adding that it "gave us new information for the good of the process of the investigation." However, sources of the Lebanese presidential palace had not commented on this issue waiting for the release of the UN report on the process of the investigation.
On the other hand, Meles said during the interview that his committee will interrogate later in the same case the commander of the Syrian forces in Lebanon, Lt. Gen. Rustoum Ghazali, who denied any link between his department and the Hariri assassination.
