Washington: $ 300 million for reforms in the Arab states
Regional-USA, Politics, 7/20/2005
The regional director for the Middle East Initiative office for reforms in the American embassy in Tunisia, Peter Mouldin, said on Tuesday that Washington has allocated $ 300 million to support reforms in 13 Arab states.
Mouldin indicated in a press meeting at the headquarters of the American center in Alexandria that "the American reforms aid were allocated for individuals, companies and civil societies and that ( Washington) started to provide it to these sides since two and a half years."
Mouldin stressed that Washington does not support political parties in Egypt, but supports US civil societies working for training Egyptian party activists.
He explained that some 13 Arab states, including Egypt, benefited from the sums allocated for democratic reforms operations, noting that the American project for reforms in the Middle East concentrates on four pillars: democracy; economic growth, education and women's rights.
