Bahrain agrees to a seperate university for women in Bahrain
Bahrain, Education, 7/20/2005
The Bahraini parliament on Tuesday ratified a draft law for the establishment a university dedicated to women.
This decision was in response to demands set by Islamists to separate the two sexes. This law is considered the first of its kind in Manama. Islamists in Bahrain got a foot to the Bahraini parliament and are encouraging the adoption of their ideas through laws.
Meantime, and in a statement, the Islamic affairs ministry deplored political complaints in the mosques and other places and urged citizens not to mix religion with politics. The statement was issued after hundreds of Shiite in Bahrain demonstrated on Sunday in one of the mosques in Manama demanding new jobs.
The statement which was ammounced by Akhbar al- Khaleej ( Gulf News) said that "mosques are places for worship and they should not be violated. Using it to mobilize forces and demonstrations is against tradition, religion and the law." He added "the ministry deplores any use of mosques and worship places for political purposes and provoking acts damaging for the nation and its achievements."
