Al-Jazeera: Al-Muallem stresses Syria's keenness on Iraq Security

Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem expressed sorrow over the Iraqi Interior Minister's statements in which he involved himself in accusations that target Syria. Al-Muallem said that he invited the Iraqi Minister to visit Syria when they recently met in Brussels but he didn not come until now.

In an interview with al-Jazeera satellite TV on Monday, Al-Muallem said that it would have been better for the Iraqi minister to meet the Syrian delegation participating in an Istanbul meeting instead of directing accusations against Syria.

He added "Syria has sent a security and diplomatic delegation to Iraq last month, but the Iraqi side didn't offer any evidence on the alleged infiltration through the Syrian borders."

Muallem renewed his invitation to the Iraqi Minister to visit Syria and to discuss the reality of the Iraqi concern in this regard. He pointed out that Syria is ready for all forms of security coordination with Iraq, and wants to give success to the political process in Iraq based on the UN resolutions.

On the European recent stance, al-Muallem said that the EU sees the reality of the region through American eyes, noting that an Arab and Foreign media and diplomatic delegations had visited the Syrian-Iraqi borders and saw that Syria is doing all it can in this regard. He called on all European Foreign Ministers to visit Syria to immediately get acquainted with what Syria is doing in this field.
