Mariam Makeiba sings for freedom, tolerance in Tunisia

The renowned South African female singer Mariam Makeiba had a singing evening at the Greek Theatre in the archeological city of Carthage in the course of what is known the 41st session of the annual Cultural Carthage festival, in which she chanted for the values of freedom and tolerance.
On Sunday evening Makeiba sang several of her songs on love, pain, and freedom before an audience of 9,000 spectators for two hours in English, Arabic and French languages about the sufferings of the African people and love-hood for the mother, the homeland and fighting of repression.
She also sang without music the renowned folkloric Lebanese song ( Dakhl Eyounik Hakina). Other participants was Varvina artistic band from ( Burkina Faso) with a song for the former South Africa leader Nelson Mandella.
Makeiba who is over 70 year old had an evening at Carthage theatre in 1999 after which she was honored by the Tunisian President Zine al-Abidin Ben Ali.
The Greek Theatre in Carthage festival which started on July 9 and continues until August 18 hosts several singing and entertainment evening for renowned Arab and foreign singers.
