Iran's Supreme Leader: Iraq is genuine brother of the Iranian nation

Iran's Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with the visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari Monday expressed satisfaction with formation of a government elected by Iraqi people, IRNA reported.

"Lauding the premier as a religious figure of merit and an intellectual, Ayatollah Khamenei said that an independent and integrated Iraq enjoying security and welfare is of high priority to Iran," IRNA said.

During the meeting, the Supreme Leader referred to the Iraqi nation as "the genuine brother of the Iranian nation" and said that similar to the Iraqis, the Iranians rejoiced at Saddam Hussain's downfall, IRNA said.

IRNA reported that "Turning to the enemies of the new Iraq who are against national security and progress, the Supreme Leader noted that there is a firm determination to prevent promotion of stability in the country by creating disasters..The Zionists are likely to be involved in such moves. However, given their natural and human resources, the Iraqi nation and government are capable of reconstructing Iraq," he added.
