Egypt, Economics, 7/18/2005

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi will discuss with Chairman of Malaysian Petronas Company Ten Sir Hassan Marikan during his visit to Cairo next week a new plan for increasing Malaysian investments in the field of prospecting for oil and natural gas in Mediterranean deep waters.

The two men will also discuss expanding the projects of liquefying natural gas and exporting it to European and American markets.

Malaysian current investments in Egypt hit $2 billion. Deputy Chairman of Petronas Company Nassr Eddin Adris said that Malaysia plans to allocate new investments to take part in developing the biggest project for producing natural gas in Egypt from "Safron-Scarb" field.

In cooperation with Shell Company, he added, Petronas implements projects for prospecting for natural gas northeast the Mediterranean Sea.
