Al-Assad receives newly appointed grand mufti

President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday received Syria's new Grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Hassoun.
During the meeting, President Assad and Sheikh Hassoun conferred on the "open-minded religious discourse and its importance in raising consciousness and achieving justice, equality, and tolerance" in society and bringing up a conscious generation that serves home and preserves heritage. President al-Assad expressed hope that "the spiritual circles in Syria work in this direction."
