Sanyoura presented new government excludes Aoun
Lebanon, Politics, 7/16/2005
Designated Lebanese prime minister Fouad Sanyoura said that the new formation which he had submitted to the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud on Friday is composed of 24 ministers including parliamentarians and politicians, leaving behind the idea of the government which is free from members in the parliament and the political parties.
In a press conference, Sanyoura indicated that 105 parliamentarians support this formulation which is considered the third after Lahoud had rejected the two earlier formations for the government which has been impeded since 16 days.
Sanyoura's government which was submitted to President Lahoud does not include any ministers belonging to the Christian leader Michael Aoun, the leader of the largest Christian bloc composed of 21 parliamentarians.
Sanyoura said that the new formula is the best for a representative reform government because it is greatly supported by large number of parliamentarians and is backed by the main Shiite organizations supporting Syria ( Hizbullah and the Amal movement).
The Druze Leader Walid Junblat expressed his conviction that Lahoud "will reject any formation" proposed by Sanyoura, calling for a structure presenting the parliamentary majority ( 72 parliamentarians out of 128) which includes al-Mustaqbal rend and his trend and that of the Christian forces namely the Lebanese forces party. Junblat said "Let Lahoud then reject such a government and we will know then what we will do."
Worthy mentioning that the formation of the government in Lebanon is a complex operation. Such a government designated by (a Muslim Sunni) should get the consent of the consent of the President of the Republic ( Christian).
