Jaafari in Tehran tomorrow
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 7/15/2005

Iraq's prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari will be in Tehran on Saturday in the first visit for an Iraqi prime minister to Iran since the fall of the regime of Saddam Hussein during which he will sign important electricity and oil agreements to help in solving the energy crisis in Iraq.

One Iraqi official said that the agreement includes installation of pipeline for an area of 50 KM between the Iraqi al-Basra oil center and the Iranian Abadan port and using Iran's ports via the Caspian sea to import refined fuel products to Iraq from central Asia and to link the electricity network of the two countries.

The Iraqi embassy in Tehran said that during the three days he will spend in Iran, al-Jaafari will hold talks with senior Iranian officials dealing in particular "with bilateral relations." The embassy added that seven Iraqi ministers arrived on Thursday in Iran while other three will arrive on Saturday, accompanying al-Jaafari.
