Syria, Economics, 7/13/2005
The Danish General Company started surveys and studies on the possibility of oil or natural gas deposits in the regional waters along the Syrian coast.
"There is coordination and cooperation between our Ministry and the Danish company with which Syria contracted to explore potential oil deposits on the coastal area," Minister of Oil and Mineral Recourses, Ibrahim Haddad, said in a statement to SANA in Lattakia published Tuesday.
The minister added that the company has started the first stage of a comprehensive maritime survey in the regional waters and that their results will be announced within six months.
Haddad expressed hope that good results could emerge in order to move to the second stage to divide the areas and sign the necessary concession contracts.
