Opposition to the new Sudanese government
Sudan, Politics, 7/12/2005

Former Sudanese prime minister al-Sadeq al-Mahdi on Sunday strongly criticized the Interim Constitution of Sudan which has been enacted on Saturday. He also criticized the authority sharing system between the government and the former southern rebels.

Al-Mahdi said during a press conference he held in Khartoum "we believe that this constitution is bad." Al-Mahdi criticized the agreement between the government and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) saying that his coalition with al-Turabi and other ten parties refuse to take part in the authority on the grounds of the distribution of authority which he considered as not acceptable.

For his part, the chairman of the Sudanese people's congress party Hassan al-Turabi who was released recently strongly criticized the Sudanese government, considering that the Interim constitution does not give freedom to citizens.
