Differences in the Sudanese public over the interim phase
Sudan, Politics, 7/8/2005
The Sudanese public was split between optimism and one pessimism and concerned over the next interim phase in which the ruling National Congress party and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement will carry out a partnership that will extend for the coming years.
Part of the Sudanese citizens expected that security and good governance will be established while another side expected Sudan to face a crisis that will violate its stability, completely. However, a third side is concerned of the non compliance between the right ( the National Congress party), and the left ( SPLM/SPLA) to run the country's affairs according to a common political vision.
However, many of them consider that the SPLM will start its phase in ruling Sudan from a weak point reflected in that its rate of participation in the rule (28%) is not equivalent to the rate of the National Congress ( 52%). They considered the persistence of the chairman of the SPLM in participation in the national coalition as one of its attempt to make the needed balance in the next phase.
They stressed that the strategy of the SPLM is built on its realization that there is a public opinion that stands hostile to the government, represented in the Ummah party and the Democratic Federal party, the People's Congress and the communist party, in addition to the civil society organizations, which either permits the taking of consensus decisions or unilateral ones.
