Sanyoura achieves progress in forming the Lebanese government
Lebanon, Politics, 7/7/2005

The designated Lebanese prime minister Fouad Sanyoura announced he had achieved progress in efforts to form a Lebanese government.

Sanyoura expressed following his meeting with the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud, his hope that partners will cooperate to remove all impediments. The designated prime minister is facing difficulties with having to include all rivals in the recent elections inside one government, in addition to the difficulty of distributing ministerial bags, even among allies themselves.

One of the main points standing before forming the government is the demand set by the Shiite alliance to get the foreign ministry in the first participation Hizbullah (14 seats in the parliament) intends to get, in addition to demands to get another ministerial bag.

The persistence of Hizbullah to get the foreign ministry comes because it expects that it will play a role in reforming relations with Syria in the coming phase, as well as with the UN over the implementation of UN Security Council resolution on dismantling the weapons of Hizbullah fighters.

This new development in the Hizbullah position came after the chairman of the party bloc in the parliament, Muhammad Raad, said that it is the right of the party to directly take part in the decision making, rather than its allies, as used to be before.
